Congregations Around Richmond Involved To Assure Shelter: CARITAS
CARITAS was organized in the early 1980's to respond to the huge unmet need for emergency shelter for homeless adults in the cold winter months. With its name derived from the Latin word for charity, today CARITAS is the largest emergency shelter program in our community. Manakin Episcopal Church participates with Epiphany Catholic Church, as part of more than 150 faith communities and about 20,000 volunteers. These volunteers are personally involved in providing help to those less fortunate to provide over 30,000 nights of shelter annually.
Here are the dates for the 2010 feeding programs:
Saturday, July 24th
Saturday, September 25th
Saturday, November 27th
We will meet in the Parish Hall at 9:00 AM to pack 140 lunches and then deliver them to four homeless shelters. Please mark your calendars now and join us in this Outreach opportunity!
On Wednesday, July 7th, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, we will be participating in CARITAS. We will be providing and serving dinner for 40 homeless guests. We will be meeting at Epiphany Catholic Church. This is a wonderful experience and all ages are welcome. A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall. You are welcome to donate food items, non-perishable items, as well as hotel-sized soaps, shampoos, lotion, etc.
If you have any questions about CARITAS or are interested in participating, please contact the church office at 804-794-6401.
