Congregations Around Richmond Involved To Assure Shelter: CARITAS
CARITAS was organized in the early 1980's to respond to the huge unmet need for emergency shelter for homeless adults in the cold winter months. With its name derived from the Latin word for charity, today CARITAS is the largest emergency shelter program in our community.
Manakin Episcopal Church participates with Epiphany Catholic Church, as part of more than 150 faith communities and about 20,000 volunteers. These volunteers are personally involved in providing help to those less fortunate to provide over 30,000 nights of shelter annually.
We will be helping with CARITAS on Wednesday, July 2nd, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This involves serving dinner to approximately 40 homeless guests, both men and women, as well as packing lunches for the next day. The guests will be staying at Epiphany Catholic Church in Smoketree subdivision (off of Courthouse Road). There is a sign-up sheet posted in the Parish Hall ... we need helpers as well as donations of food, paper products, etc. All ages are welcome.Thank you in advance for your support!!
If you have any questions about CARITAS or are interested in participating, please contact the church office at 804-794-6401.
