Habitat for Humanity of Powhatan

Great news! We purchased a new building lot and will begin building a new home later this summer! Our affiliate paid $50,000 for the land and we are hoping to purchase another building site in the near future for our 5th home! The home will be built with materials and volunteers from local churches and contractors! We would like to thank the members of Manakin for their generous contributions made through our Outreach Program. Manakin has donated over $18,000 to build six new homes since we started building in Richmond and Powhatan in 2001!  We will also be asking for volunteers to work at the job site when our building schedule is finalized! Also, our annual Golf Outing will be held at Independence on Friday, September 12th. Contact the church for sign up information!

Tri-Cities Habitat for Humanity has been building homes in the area for nine years, and they are affiliated with the larger Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI).  Habitat is dedicated to providing housing for low-income families, with mortgage payments going toward the building of more homes. HFHI has built more than 150,000 houses since its formation in 1976. Manakin has given over $15,000 and volunteered on the job to help build 5 homes in the Greater Richmond area during this time! In addition, Manakin workers travelled to Biloxi this past spring to help with building new Habitat homes in the Katrina and Rita ravaged areas. Thanks to all of the volunteers for stepping up to help and for continuing the Manakin tradition of helping others.
