Men of the Church

The Men of the Church meets on the first Saturday of each month for breakfast, fellowship, and an educational program. All men are invited. There are no dues, and the only expense at our meetings is $5 for a super country breakfast. The breakfast meetings provide an opportunity for fellowship and good food while enjoying an informative program.

After a summer break, the Men of the Church will start its fall Saturday morning speaker program on Saturday, September 13th at 8 AM. Our own parishioner, Gene Johnson, Director of the Department of Corrections for the Commonwealth of Virginia, will be our guest speaker. This promises to be quite an informative program.

Gene has served with the Department of Corrections in Virginia for over 42 years. As the Department’s Director, he has served at the pleasure of two governors. The Corrections Department is the largest general fund agency in the state with a budget of over one billion dollars. There are 42 Penal Institutions in the state with 43 Parole Districts. In addition to incarceration, the Department of Corrections supports programs to include the Agriculture Business Program, the Environ mental Services Unit, the Inmate Construction Program, and the Industries Program. Gene’s topic will be “An Overview of the Operations of the Department of Corrections”.

Also at the meeting on Saturday, September 13th, plans will be outlined for our Fall Brunswick Stew Sale which will be conducted on Saturday October 11th.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 13th, at 8 AM. Come join the group for fine fellowship, a great breakfast, and hear Mr. Gene Johnson talk about the operations of the Department of Corrections in the Commonwealth.
