Men of the Church

The Men of the Church meets on the first Saturday of each month for breakfast, fellowship, and an educational program. All men are invited. There are no dues, and the only expense at our meetings is $5.00 for a super country breakfast. The breakfast meetings provide an opportunity for fellowship and good food while enjoying an informative program.

The Men of the Church, having not met during the summer months, will start its fall monthly breakfast and speaker program on Saturday, September 11th at 8:00 AM. Please note that we are scheduling it for the 2nd Saturday in September to avoid a conflict with Labor Day weekend.

The guest speaker for the September program is Virginia Historical Society’s exhibit coordinator for Virginia’s Civil War Sesquicentennial Exhibition, Andrew Talkov. Mr. Talkov’s topic is titled “An American Turning Point: The Civil War in Virginia.” The Civil War (1861-1865) will mark its sesquicentennial in 2011. With Virginia having provided more sons, more General officers, and having had more battles fought on its soil that any other state, the Virginia Historical Society will have special exhibits in the next four years reviewing this period in our history. Mr. Talkov’s talk will provide a historical perspective about this “Turning Point” in our state and country. A special thanks goes to John Goode for making the referral in getting Mr. Talkov to do this program.

For all men at Manakin, the monthly breakfast program is a wonderful opportunity for you to enjoy the fellowship, eat a great country breakfast and hear a good program. There are no dues, just a bargain five-dollar cost for breakfast. Plan to be a part of the group on Saturday, September 11th, at 8:00 AM.

For advance planning and support of all Manakin parishioners, the Men of the Church group has scheduled its annual Brunswick Stew Sale for Saturday, November 6th. More details will follow later this fall.
