PASTORAL CARE COMMITTEE
Manakin Prayer Vine
The Manakin Prayer Vine via the internet is up and running!
Individuals can send prayer requests to manakinprayer@verizon.net and the requests will be routed to the Manakin “prayer angels” for prayer.
Prayer requests are considered confidential and will be treated as such. First names only will be routed to the prayer angels unless the full name is requested. Prayer requests can also be made anonymously.
PRAYER ANGELS NEEDED! If you would like to be a prayer angel and provide intercessory prayer for those in need, please contact the church office.
Prayer Ministry Idea Using Today’s Technology
The Pastoral Care Committee is very enthusiastic about implementing a new program before the end of the year. Electronic Prayer Pagers are a wonderful way to pray for those in need within our church community and have them truly know that they are in our hearts and prayers.
How It Works:
Individuals within the church who are chronically ill, seriously ill or in crisis are given an electronic pager. The telephone numbers for the pagers are posted in the Sunday bulletin and in the monthly newsletter with the recipient’s name. Recipients may also choose to remain anonymous. Individuals in the church pray for the individual and dial the number. The pager vibrates or rings letting the recipient know someone has prayed for them. Can’t you just feel the love!? (The pager recipients can turn the pager on or off as they wish.) Also, for the sake of simplicity the callers remains anonymous.
The clergy will determine who might be a recipient. Look for the prayer list in the bulletin and the newsletter in the near future and let us know of people who might be good candidates for the pagers.
An Easter Snow Storm
Parishioners of Manakin Episcopal Church unable to attend Worship Service as a result of a long-term illness will soon receive some small comfort from the Pastoral Care Committee. And despite that snow in April is somewhat uncommon, parishioners will receive some of that also. Snow Globes (you know, the kind you had when you were a kid) designed by Ann Markel with photography by Clovis Khoury reveal Manakin Episcopal Church and its altar. “We thought the idea would be a special reminder to those who cannot attend Church regularly because they are either in a long-term care facility, a hospital or recovering from an illness at home,” said Ann Markel. “It’s a simple gift to say, ‘we love you’.” The photographs taken during Easter highlight a most special occasion and create a beautiful contrast with a light dusting of snow inside the globe. Now that is heavenly!
